F.A.Q.

Yun Moo Kwan is a Korean school but the Martial Arts of Yun Moo Kwan are not Korean?

The Martial Arts of YMK come from China-Manchuria (Chuan Fa) and Okinawa-Japan (Karate). However, there was some influence from the native Korean leg game Taekyon.

Whats the difference between Yun Moo Kwan and Moo Duk Kwan?

Both traditional M.A. schools differ little from each other in terms of Kong/Tang Soo Do but the Kwon Bup influence of authentic Yun Moo Kwan curriculum is much greater (50% Kong Soo Do and 50% Kwon Bup). Moo Duk Kwan has only two Kwon Bup sets: Tan Tui and Sorim Jang Kwon, which are performed not fluently but tightly (like Karate).

Zie: Untold Story of Taekwondo / Taekwondo Dan-skipping.

Why do you make a strict separation with Taekwondo?

Yun Moo Kwan (Korea 1946-1950) was a mirror of the Japanese Shudokan and the forerunner of the newly developed martial arts Taekwondo in which the Mudo philosophy was lost due to propaganda and sports mentality. YHA does not want and know taekwondo mentality and influences (military, sports, nationalism, commerce, politics). See: Untold Story of Taekwondo / Taekwondo Dan-skipping.

What is the added value of a recognized lineage?

A recognized lineage is a direct line. This means, there have been no splits from schools or teachers. As a result, the course material has remained pure; original authentic education (full curriculum; no mix) is given and correct Dan exams are taken. The motto 'don't mix martial arts 'of Toyama Kanken' is honoured.

Are you a union?

No, YHA is a non-commercial club of friends, which practices the classic Martial Arts of Yunmookwan/Shudokan and wants to maintain these arts.

We practice Kong Soo Do-Kwon Bup and want to participate in the YHA platform?

YHA is open to cooperation and exchange with other practitioners of Kong Soo Do-Kwon Bup (individual Black Belts or dojangs). If one has a provable line to Shudokan or the first Korean Kwans, and one is certified/examined in such a way (no Taekwondo).
